activities, fossil fuel combustion, and vehicular emissions, react with water
vapor, oxygen, and other chemicals in the atmosphere, forming sulfuric acid and
nitric acid. These acidic compounds then combine with precipitation, such as
rain, snow, fog, or dew, and fall to the Earth's surface.
